NONOM I Handsette Recordings Showcase

Tonights show features a showcase of material from the label Handsette Recordings also featuring music from DATASSETTE and SYNCHRONOISE. Co-run by Luke Hansbury and Datassette the labels debut release - Shatnereffekt One by Datashat - conquered the airwaves with its Italo version of Grandmaster Flash ‘The Message’ gaining airplay on Radio One with its infectious update of the electro classic. The rest of the EP charts similar funk fuelled territory - in particular Science Pipe Two a firm favourite of mine over the past year - before entering areas usually reserved for the likes of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop with the track ‘Out to Lunch’. 

The follow-up landed on my doormat last week, a varied four track EP entitled Elektronische Unterhaltungsmusik 1 which sees Handsette continuing its quest for head crushing innovation and lush electronics while always keeping one eye on the dancefloor. Each track occupies a different sonic space with the tough melodic electro of Kritical Audio’s ‘Spandex’ - currently being caned by the likes of Surgeon and Rob Hall - and ably picking up the baton left by Datashat on the first EP.  Following this Miles Tilmann ups the funk quotient further with ‘Spirex’ featuring eighties inspired freaked out keys and off-kilter beats. C. Mantle gets brutal on the flip with the intense cut ‘That Other Eden’ which will be ideal for scaring kiddies in confined dark spaces this autumn. The EP is closed by the lush contemplation of Unity Gain Temple’s ‘Sahmo’. Pure and simple electronic bliss. 

The show will also feature a preview of Handsette Recordings forthcoming third release by Posthuman which features a remix by Cursor Minor.
